You need to be a plumber!! I mean, let me alone! Carole Vorderman, for fuck’s sake? This person has cornered the market in being a genius. Why? For being able to add!! Is that the most depressing thing you’ve ever heard? The popular sentiment thinks that an intellectual is somebody who can add.
What’s wrong with our society? Why does our world think that certain intellectual pursuits are outside the scope of the normal human being? It’s always Einstein, or even, pathetically, Carole Vorderman. How trivial can we make the world we live in? I have to make a confession here. I like science. I like technology. I like mathematics, but I feel like I’m at a fucking AA meeting. Hi. I’m Bock, and I do sums. Why does nobody say, “You wouldn’t need to be Seamus Heaney to do that..” What? Is it because they all think they could do what he does? If I could do a millionth of what he does, I’d be well pleased.
