I think the best thing I ever saw was Dana International fall down at Eurovision, closely followed by Stuart Mcall fall off a car. But this is up there.

Very interesting. I have been wondering about …….. oh I forgot. Do you think our livers will hold up against the barrage of ethol alcohol we keep …… oh I forgot Ethel doesn’t want to do it anymore. It isn’t ethol and it isn’t Ethel, but you knew that. You’re winding me up.

It’s ethyl alcohol. Also known as ethanol. C(2)H(5)OH. The OH radical is what makes it more interesting than it used to be. Previously, it would have been C(2)H(6), which is just ethane, a boring but flammable substance, useful for flinging at tinkers but for little else.

Did you know that methyl alcohol, CH(3)OH is what they add to ethyl alcohol to make it undrinkable? The result is known, not surprisingly, as methylated spirits.

The drinking community remain undeterred and swallow it anyway.
