I’m a sucker for science fiction
Posted on Monday, January 8, 2007Do you know what? I love Stargate. I just love it. I think Jack O’Neill is cool as fuck and of course I’m at one with 50% of the world’s population in thinking that Carter is just simply the business. Carter is the ultimate sex symbol.
I know - all right? I know!! They’re acting. I know. Fuck off and let me alone. I know they’re actors, but they’re more than that. I know, the same way I knew Sigourney Weaver was just acting in the first Alien. Just like I knew Harry Dean Stanton was acting. And John Hurt and all the others. It didn’t matter: the plot was strong. The set was good. The feeling was right. I was in there with them, up against the Satan-from-space and that was that. We were going to survive together or we were going down together. It was the same with Blade Runner. It was the same, for fucksake, with every single episode of the original Star Trek, except the one about the Tribbles. The Tribbles could all fuck off as far as I was concerned.
I’m fairly choosy about my iconic science-fiction experiences, and therefore, I’m not about to make any overblown statements on the matter. I’m just telling you what I enjoyed. In my personal view, Jean-Luc Picard has to be one of the coolest SF characters ever, provided at all times that Jean-Luc is represented by Patrick Stewart. If Jean-Luc Picard is ever acted by anyone else, he can fuck off too.
Anyway, that about wraps it up. I just wanted to say that I’m a sucker for science fiction.
Ho-hum.

I’m partial to the new Doctor Who, Firefly, even the Battlestar Galactica remake. But Stargate? Sheesh!

I with Bock on this one. jc skinner’s selection are just soaps with aliens.
Something thats been bugging me for a while. Which film/TV series came up with replicators first? I don’t know. When I saw them first I thought what a brilliant scary idea. Now they are everywhere. (pun intended).

JC, you’re being very hard on me here. I’ve only just noticed this comment after a hard night revitalising the site, and frankly, I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve been crying. Jesus, how could you be so hurtful? Also, if I could just add, Doctor Who - what?

Bock, I’m with you (mostly). SG1 - I love it. Jack O’Neill IS cool as fuck (although he obviously had quite the cache of cool to carry over from MacGyver). Never found Carter terribly sexy though. You’re on your own there.
Ripley in Alien was sexy however (only the first one though). This is no mean feat as Sigourney Weaver just manages to look like a bloke in pretty much everything else.
Alien, Stewart-as-Picard, Tribble-suckiness… I’ve rarely agreed this much with anyone.
I’m welling up here. Excuse me, I think I’ve something in my eye.

Jimmy Page’s Trousers:
Ah! Are you any relation of Robert Plant’s underpants?
I don’t think I’m alone in the matter of Amanda Tapping. In fact, as far as I know, there are millions of devoted male followers. However, Amanda prefers me to all the rest of them. I just know it.
The great thing about Jack O’Neill is that he can knock a Stargate together out of a few old bean tins and a small dog.

I’ve always been a sci fi nerd and I have recently fallen in love all over again. It will never be as intense as my first love with Jean Luc but still it’s a close second. It’s great Sky one are always showing SG1, which I have only recently become addicted to. This is bad tho I need to be doing things, but they are so witty, O Neil is so very handsome, I need to break this habit, I need to be a functioning member of society again…or maybe I don’t. I’m considering buying some of the series on DVD but if I do that I prob won’t ever leave the house. Then what would you do without your friendly chat in your pub of choice Bock? I recommend Millenium, another of my previous addictions, its better on DVD, no shitty breaks.
