Microsoft Windows Vista is Garbage

Posted on Tuesday, August 14, 2007

I bought a new computer a couple of months ago.  It isn’t massively powerful, because I didn’t need anything spectacular.  All I needed was a PC to do this kind of thing and a bit of word-processing.

It freezes.  It hangs.  It locks up.  My programs are constantly Not Responding.

This thing locks up when you try to switch between windows.  It takes half an hour to achieve what my old 386 would have done in seconds ten years ago.

This operating system is crap and Microsoft should be sued for foisting such a heap of junk on an innocent public.

If anyone out there has special technical knowledge, please tell me how to get rid of this evil garbage without incurring more cost.  Please.

Let me repeat.  Microsoft Windows Vista is rubbish.  Do not buy it.

    1. reformat hard drive
    2. install Ubuntu linux from a CD
    3. get back to working on a computer

I haven’t used Windows in ages, because I have to use a Mac for work - and I’ve had no real problems with this laptop for the last three years, it’s been brilliant and exceptionally stable.

I know that’s no help. Sorry. Burn the PC. BURN IT!

And bring part three of the Festival to us. I want to know what Richmond Fontaine were like.

Your problem is probably due to la lack of memory; minimum for Vista Home Basic 1G, for Premium, 2G. If your PC has less that that, then you’re going to have spend another €30 - €90 Euros on extra memory otherwise you might as well throw it out (try http://www.shop4memory.com/default.asp for memory). If you don’t wish to add more memory there is a option of using a USB stick to “ReadyBoost” Vista, see (http://www.windowsvistamagazine.com/US/05582469248596696351/use-any-usb-stick-to-readyboost-your-computer.html)

You could probably run linux from a memory stick or a non-install disk and just bypass Vista?

Microsoft have always been a shower. Hopefully they will get their reward in the afterlife, in cyberspace, condemned to roam inside their own operating system for eternity. Fitting?

Bring back Clive Sinclair. Now there is someone I could canonise with a good conscience.

Microsoft just rely on old technology, they’re dinosaurs. Get a Mac, or, if you don’t want to shell out that much, install Linux.

    Bock -

Uh, if it’s that slow…have you checked to see what is eating up all your processor? (Task Manager, Processes….). You could have a virus…if it’s constantly running at 50% or higher utilization. Just a thought.

Oh yeah, you got your install disks? Pop sucker into disk drive, you should have recovery option….go back to last day BEFORE computer started asking bollix and select that day…and it will reinstall that image.

Just went through this with LimerickGal’s laptop, which also runs Vista, which got infected (Bad LG) when she and some pals were looking at Big Bad Things!

Save all of your data, and re-install Windows. As bad and pretentious as Windows is, it’s a hundred times better than Ubuntu!

73man, I agree that Linux is grand, but Ubuntu is pure - vile shite!

Jesus no wonder me firewall blocked you Bock, that’s sacrilige to our Head of IT (Who, by the way was at the Irish launch of Vista and got to meet Neil Armstrong, cunt!!) but to us lowly techies your fuckin dead right, it’s the biggest pile of shite that was ever shat out of Bill Gates’ hole. Our rollout of Vista has been suspended coz it won’t work with half of our applications, much to the dismay of HIT.

73man: I’m considering that, but it would be a little way along the chain of frustration. We’ll come to it no doubt.

Badgerdaddy: I will get back to the festival. Promise. With Shannonside under attack and my computer going to fuck I’ve been somewhat distracted. Watch this space, possibly sooner than seems obvious.

Benny: I’ve no idea how that could be done. Is it possible? Boot off a memory stick?

Annie: Can’t justify a Mac straight after buying a PC. Anyway, isn’t Apple moving to Microsoft for the MAC OS?

Eliza: I don’t think there’s a virus, but maybe I should look closer. Thanks for advice.

Mr Davis: Nicely schmoozed. Well done, Sir. Consider yourself reciprocally schmoozed.

Flirty: That would be nice, but how could I annoy you and all the others with coloured pieces of paper?

Mr Nipple: Now you’ve got it.

John: Can I run all my existing applications on Linux?

Mr 60+: I’m always livid. (When sober).

Dr Thunder: Move to WordPress.com immediately. You haven’t many posts up yet and now is the time before it becomes a pain in the arse. Email me if you require guidance.

Surely you lot of technophiles know that the general public is simply Bill Gates beta testing crew! Get a mac! Vista will be fine in 2020! B3N sent me he was worried you were going down the dark path.

What kind of net-security do you have? Do you install alot of things?

Get on to microsoft update web page.

If it’s really fucked, back everything up and re-install. Then go back to the MS update page and rape it for upgrades…

I work in one of the nerdiest commputer shops around there’s a few things I’ve learned…

Linux is for nerds. I don’t mean that in a bad way, just one would have to be a nerd to fully get the best out of it and make it work properly…

Anyone I know who has owned macs for a long time says their day is passed. They’re getting more and more shit as time goes on…
And everyone who owns a mac is, in at least some small way, a wanker…

Take care of windows and it’ll work grand… I’ve been running the same copy of XP on this machine for 2 years and it’s still fine.

If Vista is really acting up, rob someones XP cd and use that instead.

Mirosoft got rich and fat and lazy through a combination of luck and ruthless business practice, whereas Apple are dedicated to developing state-of-the-art technology.

Apple moving to Microsoft for the next OS is a vicious and terrible rumour, and if it turns out to be true I will just have to eat my hat.

Vista is good if you up date it. But you need a powerful computer to run it. At least 2G of ram and a 256megs graphics card.

Nope. I think you might be confused with the fact that because Apple now run on Intel chips they can run Windows.

However, there is no chance whatsoever of Microsoft providing the primary OS for Apple computers.

    You choices are:-
    * Install Windows XP
    * Install a Linux distro and learn how to use it, the second part is not simple. I’ve done it but I’m a geek.
    * Buy a Mac - This is expensive and Mac OSX is also quite slow unless you have a fast machine

I would not recommend trying to upgrade the hardware of your machine to make Vista work faster. I have used Vista on many machines, many of which are extremely fast (faster than you can easily buy). It is still slow..

Twenty Major is right about Apple’s plans.

Finally, look up my IP and laugh.

  32. Bock

    WJJr: What’s wrong with wankers?

John: God. I just want a machine that works.

    Mr Help-us: More money.

Badgerdaddy: Fightin’ talk! I love it.

Twenty: Is that it? Fuck, if I knew that I’d have considered buying a Mac instead of this piece of shite.

Almost Anon: I looked up your IP. Hmmm. Well, what can one say?

I think I’ll go to XP. Now all I need to find is a local geek to do it for me.

    Thanks for advice.

Nothing!?! Damnit, I said they’re all lovely people…

    August 16th, 2007

Bock, most people buy the machine they can afford. And that machine will run Vista but that’s all. They never think they have to run other memory hungry programs.
My advice is to buy the best without breaking the bank. Remember it’s a false economy to go for a cheap one to save money when a few hundred extra will make you life a whole lot better.

I have several machines in the house, including one using Vista. It’s grand, but it has 2GB - the min for Vista apparently.

    August 17th, 2007

Yeah, run linux… maybe we should go back to hunting wild game with rocks and sticks too… Get a Mac, Ha! I Run Mac’s and PC’s (with Vista & XP), if you want a fuck around being slowed down by nothing but shortcut keys etc… and no software. Than get a mac.
If you are over 13 and have a bit of a brain, then you have what you need, just make sure you have enough RAM.

IT Techs in Europe?… Irish Techs? c’mon give me a break, people should not be aloud to have computers outside of North America.

If its really a pain then reinstall Windows XP SP2 which is very stable - or take it back to the shop and ask them to do it
or hold out a few months for for Vista Service Pack 1
As a new OS it takes time for manafacturers to update drivers etc - normally recommended to wait till SP1 unless you know for sure that everything you have will work
    - moral: shiny new shit isnt alway as cool as reliable old shit

Windows Vista is pure garbage. Programs take forever to respond, or don’t respond at all. I am gonna replace it with XP on my new POWERFUL running AMD 5600 x2 with 4G ram. Unreal. My old 512K , AMD 2400 with XP runs extremely faster. What a set-back for Microsoft.

Just bought an HP laptop with Windows Vista in early Feb/08. I should have done more research before I bought it. Windows Vista has crashed more in the last 30 days than any operating system I’ve ever had. I feel sorry for people who know little or nothing about computers because this OS will eat them alive.

Most people who know me consider me an expert on computer matters and so at least I know how to follow the ENDLESS amount of pop ups Vista provides.

It’s the most incompatible piece of garbage the MS monopoly has produced.

I think WINDOWS VISTA is a SICK JOKE that MICROSOFT is playing on us. Specially those of us who uses PC for WordProcessing and Email.
I bought a New Computer with VISTA on it. It is a CONSTANT Pain. It Locks, Freezes, Takes 30+ Minutes to Startup etc.
I Want to toss it out of the window but it will be my loss not MS’s. Any suggestions or Help. How these Big Corporation messing our lives and nobody out there to help us.
If Microsoft got into trouble all the Republicans & Democrates will be out there DISHING out BILLIONS of our TAX Money to HELP Poor Microsoft.
