Natural Selections

Posted on Thursday, August 30, 2007

Mr Darwin has finally launched his stupendous organ on the world.

I bumped into him last night in a filthy illegal drinking den. He was playing a stainless steel Fender acoustic guitar that looked like an attack frying pan and howling the words of a song that seemed strangely familiar, yet somehow not quite right.

What’s that you’re singing? I demanded.

It’s the theme song from Fatal Attraction, he slurred.

No it fucking isn’t, I countered, wittily.

Tis! he snarled. Listen, and he launched into a savage assault on the guitar strings.

Boiled thing
You make my heart sing
You make everything
Come on, boiled thing

I expect to see a wide range of topics on Mr Darwin’s site, from his seminal Non-Acoustic Piano Taxonomy all the way through the odd probity of tricycles to his extreme drunken views on religious lunacy.

Go visit him immediately, link to him and comment vigorously.

Bock seems like we have friends in common. Darwin played a mean bass in a little 3 piece combo with me in San Francisco some time back. Before the IRS, the Mob and the religious right had him turfed out of the country.

Twas he that convinced me that using a charango on a recording would be a good thing. I still have some recordings of us nestling on my hard drive.

For all his affability he has a evil streak - I’ve heard him playing Toto’s “Africa”.
