For the record and sorry for going off topic again but the execution of juveniles (anyone under the age of 18 when they comitted the crime) was ruled unconstitutional in the US back in 2005 .The US Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty for those who had committed their crimes at under 18 years of age was cruel and unusual punishment and hence barred by the Constitution.

I was about to post about the Saudi’s punishment of the rape victim myself, but you did a much better job.

I’ve been an Amnesty member for years, and there does seem to be some hope that the death penalty my not be enforceable in the US. Many states now have placed a hold on execution because it may be impossible to execute someone without cruel and unusual punishment. This is all dependent on the Supreme Courts decision on Baze vs Rees. Also the American Bar wants it halted permanently. It’s a pity our moral sense couldn’t have directed us to the same conclusion, but it is a start.

The US has many flaws, but the law does seem over the long run, (sometimes the very very long run), do what it is designed too. The Bush administration is losing a lot of challenges in the courts, way more that it wins. This in no way takes away from the huge damage they have inflicted. I am hopeful that what we are seeing are the last challenges from the dying beast that is the neo con / right wing Christian alliance. As we know wounded, cornered beasts are very dangerous.

Bock, you forgot to include the US in your list. They have carried out 19 executions of children since 1990, which Amnesty says is the world’s highest.

Nora: Thats a whole different argument, and one that drew down the wrath of the Bush-nazis on me a while back, you might remember.

The hypocrisy of the US administration is beyond belief, but this post was about two things: child executions under Islamic law, and the fact that Bush removed the only secular dictator in the Middle East.

Like I said, I’ll get back to ridiculing Bush, and the Catholics and the Israelis in good time, but right now I’m talking about the kind of savagery generated by Islam, not the US.
