How do you pronounce “behemoth”?

I don’t know.

  1. bi-HE-muth. (short “i”, long “E”) Sorry, I can’t do proper pronunciation symbols. That’s the closest I can get. Thanks to my Funk and Wagnalls and an oil tanker I used to know of that name.

  2. Thanks. That’s the way I’ve heard it pronounced recently. However, I used to remember it as BE-hemoth.

    It’s all terribly confusing.

    At least that’s how I pronounce it over here in the US.

    - Pronounced “Bay – err – moth”

    Bay – the indentation created by water on the shoreline.

    Err – The utterance commonly used when a person is thinking of something to say.

    Moth – A small flying insect which is attracted to light, rumored to feed on synthetic materials. Mainly only seen at night.

    Behemoth, one of the largest species featured commonly in the Final Fantasy series. In the shape of a giant half lion half bear like creature. The Behemoth when killed can summon “Meteor” which can destroy entire party’s effortlessly.

    The “King Behemoth” was 3 times as strong its the commonly found counterpart and could summon the spell “Ultima” upon its demise. A hard fiend indeed.
