What The Fuck Is New Media?

Honest to God.
I never heard of new media until about half an hour ago when I blundered onto Rick O’Shea’s post about giving a talk on it, but it seems to be … well … this!
It seems to be this shite we all engage in, or am I wrong?
Somebody took the question seriously enough to set up a site called What’s new media? a{blog}.
I sincerely hope they don’t ask me or they’ll be waiting a while for an answer.
Maybe Mulley can tell us — after his trip to UCC — what the fuck New Media is.

Well, you are using it right now! You are using your computer and internet to get yer point across :)
(network based, computer based, electronic tools! you could also use the pharse ‘new technology’. Emails, chat rooms, Internet Art CDs, MP3s, Ditigal TV, Desktop Publishing, Virtual Reality, Games etc etc)

That’s what I was thinking. I just needed reassurance now thathey’ve started doing seminars and having bloggers speaking at them.
I wonder if they’d be interested in having a bumbling incompetent give a talk on how to muddle through as best you can?

Speaking for meself, the distinctive thing is that the ‘new meeja’ is less mediated than ‘old meeja’. The role of editor / programme controller is redundant.
