Bertie Ahern to quit

Good.

About time.  He’s a disgrace.

I loved Pat Rabbitte’s comment on the radio this morning.  He remarked that the Greens had to choose between saving the planet and riding shotgun on Fianna Fáil’s morals.

They opted to save the planet, said the presenter.

Yes, replied Rabbitte.  It was the easier option.

6th May, co-incidentally the Feast of the Holy Willie.

What an epitaph to came up with. “I have done no wrong, and wronged no-one” any wonder he nearly turned on the waterworks when uttering that beauty.

Any truth that Senator Arselicker Harris was just seen heading towards Dublin Airport with a jar of Vaseline and ticket for Zimbabwe in hand?

I have read all the posts regarding Bertie on here and I’ve never heard men in particular sound like such a bunch of old women in all my life. Guys – Ye are giving me a pain in my hole. Bertie Bertie Bertie, not to mention that arshole Kenny who was like a dog with a bone. In the end I was just laughing at him, the way he was going on, the old bitch. That, and wanting to stick my pen in his eye. There’s no fucking word out of him now though. I will be voting FF this time round, as I always have.

All right, All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what has Bertie ever done for us?

Brought peace.

All right, All Right, All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, and peace, what has Bertie ever done for us? … oh wait, wait a mo … the Education system in this country is based on economic apartheid and racial apartheid, classrooms are grossly overcrowded, the Health Service is in rag order and the Health Service Executives role now seems to be confined to issuing misleading snippets of information, ,,, and just how many murders have we had this past week, could we ask Galway about the fresh water system they have, ….. !!!

WELL AT LAST IT MUST BE SAID, THE MAN GOT SENSE – ‘LET IT GO, WHILE HES AHEAD’ OR SHOULD I SAY ‘BEFORE HE GOT CAUGHT’ – AS WE SAY IN IRELAND, IT IS NEVER A SIN AS LONG AS YOUR NOT CAUGHT’!!

GOOD ON YE BERTIE BOY!! YOU HEAD OFF TO EUROPE WHERE THEY WILL REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR TALENTS AND YOU’LL BE WELL TAKEN CARE OF – NO TRIBUNELS, NO PROCEDURES AND NO TAX WHICH WILL ALLOW YOU TO BUILD UP YOUR NEST EGG AND THAT OF ‘DE FAMILY’ – SORRY I MEAN THE ‘ELECTION WAR CHEST’ OF COURSE – BUT THEN YOU’LL NOT NEED TO BE ELECTED ANY MORE SO YOU’LL HAVE MORE DOSH IN THE NEST EGG TO SUPPORT THE DAUGHTERS, NOW THAT THE IRISH PERMINENT A/C GOT FOUND OUT!! YET ANOTHER ‘DIG-OUT’ FROM THE PALS THEN!!

AS FOR McDara KNOWING BERTIE SINCE THE AGE OF 4 – WERE YOU THE BASTARD HIDING UP THE TREES OF NORTH DUBLIN, WHEN BERTIE WENT SHAKING BRANCHES IN SEARCH OF ANY MISCHIEF CARRIED OUT BY A CERTAIN MINISTER??? AND WE KNOW THE TROUBLE IT GOT POOR BERTIE INTO AT THAT TIME NOT TO MENTION THE OTHER WANKER FROM SWORDS!! (HAPPY IN HIS RETIREMENT, NO DOUBT)

GO ON BERTIE, ENJOY YOUR PINTS OF BASS IN BRUSSELS – I CANT WAIT TO READ TWENTY’S COMMENTS ON THE DEMISE OF OUR ONCE GREAT LEADER!!

NOW, ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS WAIT FOR BIFFO TO GET THE NOD AND THEN WE’LL HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE DULCID TONES OF BIDDIE FROM THE BOG!! SUR THERE’S ALWAYS A WINNER – THE BEIRUT ST. PATRICKS DAY GALA BALL WILL SURVIVE WITH BIFFO IN DUBLIN AND MAGGI IN BEIRUT!!

THANKS FOR THE FUN BERTIE

not at all Bock. All politicians are liars. But this is ever so slightly less than say, Mr Haughey who flaunted it under our noses, as I remember well, when the country was a far cry from being the Celtic Tiger. This recent situation was handled disgracefully with every tom dick and harry sticking their oar in, having their say, taking the piss out of the way he talks, all the halos shining above them, Typical Irish warmouths and saints. Yep, nothing fucking changes. What a joke. As is Mr Beruits comments above…..you can’t educate pork.

If you want to bring up Haughey, you’ll have to ask the question: which of them was more indebted?

Was it the man who thought he was a feudal lord with an entitlement to receive tributes, or the man who accepted an £8,000 after-dinner tip from a bunch of rich business people?

I’m not getting into a long drawn out verbal battle about either of them Bock. I am allowed to put my opinion on here I believe, and that is what I have done. I’ve not ever put comments in about it until now, and even at that I have said little, as I don’t have the interest that some people have. As I said, in my opinion they are all crooks and liars. Bertie was nowhere near as bad as CH who was a total bandit. Hopefully, the next leader, whoever it is, will get away with nothing dishonest. My comments were about the way the matter was handled, more than the activities themselves and the way the public dealt with it in a kind of ignorant savage Saddam public hanging mentality, which at the end of the day doesn’t surprise me one bit. What’s the next bandwagon to jump on I wonder. And that’s all I have to say on it really, unlike dogs with bones.

Gilly, I’ve set out in many posts here the concrete reasons why we should all be concerned about Bertie Ahern’s accepting money, and I take exception to anybody trying to characterise people with similar concerns as “a bunch of old women”.

I think you’re trivialising the issue. The planning tribunal is about deep-rooted corruption in this country, and it’s investigating what involvement, if any, Bertie Ahern had in undermining the planning process.

The people of Neilstown, for example, might have a town centre if it hadn’t been inexplicably cancelled to facilitate the construction of a huge shopping mall. That’s not some abstract sniping, but something that had a severe impact on the quality of life in that area.

There are many other legitimate areas of concern, which in the end Bertie Ahern wasn’t able to slide out of.

As regards your comparison of Ahern with Haughey, I’ve written about him elsewhere, but this discussion doesn’t concern him. It’s about Ahern.

Much as I loathe to admit it as I can’t stand the man – in particular the whole bosom buddie “Bertie” PR spin thing (he should be kept at a distance and called Ahern) – I somewhat agree with Gilly here. The hang ’em and flog ’em boorish mentality in this country of late is disconcerting. I do believe on this occasion that he’s guilty as sin of what we know and then some, but the trial by Daily Mail/Sindo culture, led by tiresome pundits who put themselves across as unofficial unelected spokespeople for the rest of us, is equally dangerous. Having said that, I’m glad he’s gone.

I am not trivialising anything Bock. But I won’t be giving myself a headache over it either. I am not insinuating that I am in support of Bertie, but if you are going to take exception to my view(which I thought was allowed here), of the publics behaviour, which I believe to be very relevant, then I’ll shut up as I don’t want to get struck off the site or offend any overly sensitive people. Thanks.

Gilly: I don’t give a rat’s ass what you say about the public behaviour, and you know perfectly well nobody gets banned from here except abusive bastards. (Oh, and racists and bigots). The only thing I’m defending is what I personally have written about Ahern.

Demiurge: I like to think the standard here is a slight bit better than that of the Independent or the Daily Mail. Do you think I’ve been too hard on Bert?

Love the bit about reviews!

@Gilly “I will be voting FF this time round, as I always have.”….you can change your mind you know..its not like supporting a football team or being in a particular religion…..this is the sort of inappropriate commitment that prevents change in this country.
Don’t shut up….this is what these fora are for…liveliest its been in days!

Bock I like to think you’ll always be the voice of those of us who aren’t represented in mainstream media, who don’t buy into the bread and circuses element of the Celtic Tiger and actually use upstairs for thinking and downstairs for dancing! I certainly don’t think you’ve been to hard on him. I think I’m just shocked that the arrogant git is actually resigning, and media pressure definitely played a part. I think what I’m trying to say is that mainstream Irish media now definitively directs how many people think or otherwise, which is a wider argument than just about Bertie Ahern. It’s the same argument as regards Joe O’Reilly and Brian Kearney. One day they’ll pick on the wrong man and people will just blithely and subserviently go along with it.

Bock, I was called up for a job in the big smoke for today but it was called off at the last minute. I’m retaining the usual 40% left as deposit as I wasn’t required to place myself in any danger of exposure. I saw a few others who work in the wet works trade and was just wondering if you had gotten a call. There again your movement are probably under surveillance by the PTB, so calling in such a big hitter as yourself might have alerted them to the fact that something was up.

I think someone used the fact that the word was out as leverage to get him to leave quietly.

It made news in the states today and he was credited with having bartered peace in northern Ireland and having brought the celtic Tiger to the green shores. America is listed as one of his last official tours and he was here solely to fight for Irish imigrants to have a right for amnesty. The americans I spend my day with were very very impressed with his body of work! I had to leave sick it wasn’t worth trying to explain I just bailed.

Manuel: At least Ian Jr went immediately he was caught (doing almost nothing). Bert planted a terrible fixed foot and had to be rooted up with blood.

Here I am stuck in Dublin (in an admittadly nice hotel) I just got the Broadband working and I am as you are happy that (insert some fairly ripe language here) Mr B is gone..
Check my page out for how i feel about it…

Gilly:i think the hounding only happened because people had put up with shit from dodgy politicians for so long that it was enough is enough…after all who used to sign the blank cheques for Haughey??(and why did you call him MR like he deserves respect??)

Anyway enough of my ramblings.. cause we all know that nothing is really going to change now that he’s gone..

sorry if this doesn’t make much sense ,but trust me it does as i write it

Thank God he is going, but don’t any of you believe the shite he came out with. IMO he is the biggest crook in the history of the republic. The Mahon tribunal are only dealing with a couple of years, don’t forget. This twat has been in politics for thirty. Look at yer ma’s and dads, did they have 300, 000 punts they couldn’t explain in the 90s? Of course not.. but this simple man who loved his pint and his game of football expects us to believe he is a man of the people… Bertie, I have only one thing to say to you …. no 2 things…. first Liar
second….Stardust.

GOM, I am well aware that I can change my mind thank you for pointing that out to me – but I won’t be. I watched Enda Kenny last night and he is one man with no soul, whatever about Bertie. Each time I see him, I cringe. There is nothing behind that man whatsoever.

Organ Donor: I agree with you to a certain extent, of course I do, but all I can say is I’m only grateful that hanging is not legal here, because we as nation don’t seem to know the boundaries yet. I won’t bother saying any more here, as it could just go on forever.

Gilly, the point I was making is that blindly saying you vote FF is arcane….you seem to be at least making distinctions about people on a character level as per your last post – whilst this shows promise, it is still superficial. But I guess then, if there was a charismatic leader of FG or Lab or the Politically Dead you would consider voting them?

GOM – Listen, I don’t give a toss who you vote for, I said who I vote for, that’s it. What’s the shitty dig at me for?? So take your condescending notes elsewhere please, and go annoy someone else. This isn’t about me. Cheers.

Gilly, you’re right, its not about you – but the comment you made about being a dyed in the wool FF supporter does deserve examination. It is an example of the kind of shite that keeps Fianna Failed from maintaining position to carry on the way they do and not have to change from being the corrupt deviants they are – at this point they don’t even know its wrong they are so used to shitting on everyone around them.
As for going somewhere else, I encouraged you to not shut up! Thanks for not doing that – and don’t expect me too (unless Bock pulls the plug) a good aspect of freedom of speech. Its a good job all the journalists didn’t go away, or the blogs didn’t stop haranguing to get Bertie to do the only good leadership thing he has done in 10 years – dogs with bones are necessary to force change, cats rolling over for a belly rub never will.
