Georgia: Americans Complain About Russian Invasion
Posted on Wednesday, August 20, 2008Isn’t it just hysterical to listen to the Americans talking about Russian behaviour in Georgia?
Condi thinks Russia is isolating itself and losing international credibility, while Dubya says it’s wrong to invade a sovereign state.
Imagine that. George Bush thinks super-powers shouldn’t roll into foreign countries, kill their people and destroy their infrastructure.
Have you stopped laughing yet? I haven’t.

Try a good cry instead!

I would laugh if I could catch my breath at such astounding hypocrisy. But then America and Russia have always been mirror images of each other.

Watching GW make his self-important statements is always hilarious. In this case it was bloody priceless. I gather the spin in the US (from what I’ve seen on a few blogs) is that Russia suddenly jumped into Georgia unprovoked and out of the blue.
Of course, none of it was funny to the poor folk who died. But I’m quite happy to watch Russia stick it to NATO for a little while.
Not that I’d like to be marooned on a desert island with Putin …

We are all pawns on the board to these guys. Best thing to do is keep well clear of their mess.

wales and ireland as a joint effort to take them on!

We should petition the Vatican to produce a general purpose blessing, in the democratic language - Latin, for invading troops. They have blessed everything else that ever moved.
We could even have a competition for the best translation into the invaders native tongue. At the rate people are invading, that competition could run and run.
And an extreme unction for all of those my bridges they have destroyed.
Sed tantum dic verbo …

‘wales and ireland as a joint effort to take them on!’
Yayy!!
What’ll we use? Have we any pikes left?

Between the pints and the leeks we could flood them out.

Nora,
You’re correct on the spin part, unfortunately. From only hearing the US news, then reading an article on an online UK paper, I only then realised that the Russians did not start the whole thing….not that they’re all that innocent either, though.

‘not that they’re all that innocent either, though’
No indeed. And there’s been no independent tally of casualties on both sides.

Are we experiencing now what people must have in the mid-1930’s:
Economic meltdown/Recession.
Job losses and home repossessions / Bank closures.
Increased Militarism and Nationalism.
A stage-managed Olympics run by a Totalitarian Regime.
A once humiliated world power beginning to flex its muscles on it neighbours.
Another, existing, superpower determined to operate a policy of gunboat diplomacy where and when it sees fit.
As Sam Goldwyn said, “Its’ deja vú all over again”

Darwin,
oh, ouch on that one.
Nora,
the whole limited dumbed down news thing…well, considering about half of our teenagers won’t be graduating highschool (sorry, forget your school grade equivilent, help anyone)…it’s not surprising that most of our media will be dumbed down, and the populace easily manipulated. hmm, scary thought.

HGF,
When I heard that Jon Stewart now has the same credibility as his counterparts delivering the “real” news, I grinned. The young folk (or at least some) have sense. I watch him when I get a chance.
All is not lost. :)
