Storm Demolishes Gazebo

Posted on Saturday, August 16, 2008

This was our little gazebo last night.  Cosy, isn’t it?

Well, I’m afraid I have bad news for you.  The little gazebo is no more, because the wind made shit of it.  I came home today to find it collapsed like a bag of knuckles, but I’m not deterred.  I’ll treat this as yet another valuable learning experience.  I’ve already stripped off the covering, and on Monday I’ll go to the timber yard where I’ll purchase sufficient material to build a fine strong wooden framework instead of the kind of flimsy little legs that do this when the wind blows:

That’s not good.

But on Monday, I’ll build a timber frame to exactly the same dimensions, and I will then re-cover it with the very same cloth.  It will be strong and it will be honest.

I’ll report again when I have it finished.

If you go down to Stradbally on the Monday after EP, you should be able to get yourself several perfectly fine gazebos… we did last year.

Its as well to buy the proper stuff in the beginning as the cheap stuff isn’t up to it and ends up costing more. I had a experience with satellite dish with the dish and the box had to be replaced in no time.

Reinforce it with the thin metal rods they use on every building site, Bock. They will strengthen it and will hardly be noticable if you cover them with matching fabric. The cost will be minimal and it should be strong enough to withstand gale force winds.

I have a dozen or so spare ones in my van… here.. catch!

    BBB: EP?

Fuckwit: Thanks. The Royal Navy chopped all ours down to build ships.

Ferdia: I’ll treat it as an opportunity to build something better.I was going to do that anyway.

Bollix: I have a cunning bracing scheme devised already.

I love the benches, very Zen.
No construction advice at all. I’m a duct-tape everything kinda person

Thanks, but the duct tape won’t be necessary this time. The job is done.
