The Pilgrim’s Chorus

Posted on Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Here’s another little bit of music to cheer you up, I hope.

This is the Pilgrim’s Chorus from Tannhäuser.  It’s a work that’s continued to astonish and sustain me, even through times when I was very badly-behaved indeed.  Needless to mention, those things are behind me now that I’m old.

Back to rock’n'roll posts soon, I promise, but for now why not listen to this with the volume turned up to eleven?

Can’t claim to be the biggest fan of Wagner, but it’s ok. Nicely out of place for a tuesday morning. He was a believer in redemption through love, was old Richie. Don’t know if he was right but it made foir some nice tunes.

Unstranger — It’s just to keep you guessing.

M’sieur le Craic — Not great for a hangover though, I should imagine.

    Savannah — Bugs Bunny???

Anyway, there’s no no reason we can’t have Wagner and rock’n'roll at the same time.

    Nice one Bock.a beautiful piece.

May I reccomend to you ,the music of John Tavener and Karl Jenkins (Mass for Peace-not as religious as it sounds).Modern composers but have produced some astounding pieces of the last 30 years..

Thank you OD. I don’t know that piece but I’ll look it up, and while I’m at it I’ll see if I can dig out the Mass in F minor by the Electric Prunes, part of which (Kyrie Eleison) eventually found its way onto the soundtrack of Easy Rider.

    Ah… kill the wabbit..

how can you not think Wagner and immediately see Bugs Bunny. One of the greatest pairings in the history of opera.
It still brings a tear to my eye as the words “what have I done…” ring out.

Thank you, Savannah, for making my week.

They’re a pretty sad bunch, but I’m not quite sure what they have to do with Wagner.
