Midweek Break — Off To Krakow
Dec 2nd, 2008 | By Bock | Category: TravelI’m off Krakow, but I’m going with a crowd this time. A crowd of wasters, drunkards, goose-milkers and heron-stranglers.
I was never in Poland and I have no idea what to expect but everyone who’s been there tells me Krakow is a great city. I’ll bring back some pictures for you and some of the stories but maybe not all. We’ll see.
Now, here’s the problem. We’re not going there for very long — just three nights and two days, but really, you know, I’ll probably have to use one of the days to visit Auschwitz. It’s only thirty miles away and after all these years of reading, thinking and talking about the place, I don’t think I could go so near to it without visiting. Again, I’ll bring you pictures, but you might not like them much.
Apart from that, I suppose we’ll just wander around like any crowd of foreign idiots, looking up in the air and walking really slowly with a sour look on our faces, the way all tourists do. That sounds like fun. Then, after at least a half hour of that touristing stuff, we’ll all head straight for the pub. I’ll bring you pictures of the insides of many pubs, but again, you might not like them much.
Some of us have a hotel in the old part of town, and they tell me it was used to shoot a scene from Schindler’s List. I’ll bring you pictures.
That’s that for the moment. Not much more to say about it now.
I’ll try and get to an internet café occasionally and send out a few brief words if I can. We’ll be back in a few days.

Have a good trip and I know this is a big ask, but any chance you could take a few photos? you know – just to show us. Doesn’t matter if we don’t like them, just one or two or whatever…
bring us back some vodka
Mind yourself now.
Snookertony is spot on.It doesn’t matter if we like them.
Its pronounced Crack Ov.
salt mines and old jewish sector also worth a look,
is beautiful city, you really like much,
pivo is the only word of real note that i know in polish but you can have so much fun with that just one word
Be interested to know what the flights are like and if there’s many emigrants on the outward journey.
No way, Dr O: it’s Crack Ow, otherwise this just isn’t as funny.
it’s just the Polish for bovines on coke…
Check out the Salt Mines if you get a chance, Bock. Highly recommended (but bring either a flash or a fast lens if you want pictures).
I also recommend the camp. You won’t enjoy it, but you’ll be glad you went there. The inevitable snow will make it all the more surreal.
Bock, take pics lots of pics. I M envious U R going to to places that I have always wanted to see. To see Auschwitz, that will be very powerful and sacred. And the pubs well how good will that be. In case U see a little street rock and it calls to you, would U be so kind and pick it up for me? Have a great trip!! Poland may never be the same!!
Yeah right Bock, Krakow, a likely story. Admit it, you’re off to Latvia. Well I want pics too, and you know there’s only one thing Latvian worth photographing and it’s not the landscape.
have a safe trip, sugar. xoxo
Ah Bock hope your’e not gone yes but please bring back thousands of photos and in exchange take with you thousands of the Poles back to their Motherland and maybe our job prospects may improve.Slan

The irish are the last people in the world who can criticise economic immigrants. Turn around, as they say, is fair play. And that goes for Poland too, seeing as they are looking like the next ireland (economicly)
I had the opportunity to see both Irish and Polish tradesmen at work recently.
For hard work, efficiency, manners, and (dare I say it) even looks, give me the Poles.
Irish builders need to pull up their socks and stop taking things for granted or trying to screw their customers. [IMHO, as they say.]
[insert generic broad ranging slander here]

I wouldn’t say that Polish workers are necesarily more competant or honest. Manners might be due to not knowing the correct insults. They might have the looks but they don’t have the charm
IMHO ?
IMHO = in my humble opinion.
As for the Irish v Poles, I speak from first hand experience.
There is no doubt about it. The idea of customer service is totally alien to the Irish character. We have cultivated the poor mouth for far too long now. A lot of the immigrants are showing us up for what we are. The world does not owe us a living.
From the rambling nature of the comments it’s obvious that Bock’s not around to whip us into shape.
Ah here, holidays away are all fine and dandy, but this is taking the piss – you’re not exactly trying very hard to get to an internet café, are ya? You be careful now or we’ll all go and hang out at Sweary’s new place.
Jayz EolaÃÂ, where’s Sweary’s new gaff? I noticed (there were tears) that she’s taken down her old site….. no, I see, there she is!
Any chance you will bring back some pictures or have you thought about bringing a camera?
I reckon there should be snow there around this time as I was there in November last year. It should look like Christmas. I believe your photos will be fantastic.
i am going to email bock straightaway and tell him this:
every single person on HIS site has been spitting at one another, telling filthy jokes about the pope’s underwear, using obscene words (in every language) to describe these recipes posted for “spicey toad soup” served with “braised swan breast and biskets.” ALSO~ demanding “presents” from poland, and
threatening radical anarchy plus a takeover of HIS site IF he doesn’t bring back alot of “stuff”
including photo’s of grandmothers playing hopscotch in the town squares and at least 11
good stories (whether they are true or not.)
bock will be “pleased tourist in poland” when he reads all your comments here, because he will know you all were trying your best to do HIS job, and we all miss him~ maybe.

Presents from Poland?
I thought it was Latvia. Damn! I was hoping to get a beauty from Latvia and could set up in business. All my hopes of becoming a pimp are over.
Tommyalltalk — This post is about me and my friends going on a visit to Poland and it has fuck-all to do with Polish people working here.
Everybody else — Hi there. Thanks for minding the shop.
So Bock, U R having a Great Time! Cool 4 U!
Yes, but go easy on the txt spk. I hate it. Please write in English. Thanks.
Ok Bock, I am glad that you are having a great time at any rate. I shall brush up on my use of English.
