Bock Trek, The Reboot

May 11th, 2009 | By Bock | Category: internet

We have to do something about the site.  It’s all a little bit clunky and it doesn’t fulfil its role so well any more.

I’ve been hoping for a good while now to move more towards an on-line magazine format, especially since we’ve had other people contributing to the site, and also as readership continues to grow.  Furthermore, in these recessionary times, I’m hoping to attract a little bit of advertising, and the first person to shout sell-out gets a free hatchet in the forehead.

You want Bock, all sold-out, or you want broke silent Bock?  That’s the choice.

That doesn’t mean that I want to get away from the personal feel of the thing, but I think it needs to be more flexible.

I sat down today with the Geek, Scotty.

Scotty, I said.  Tell me honestly.  Is it still working like it should?

Ah, Captain, he replied wistfully, she’s a grand old ship, but she’ll no take much more o’ this.  The Jeffreys tubes willnae stand it.

I see, I said.  So what you’re telling me is that we need an NCC1701-B?

Aye, Captain, he smiled.  That wid be the very thing.

All right, I said, shifting characters without a blink.  Make it so!

And so, over the coming days and weeks, we hope to introduce to you a very different-looking Bock.  Please don’t be too frightened. It’s only a re-spray, and if you notice the occasional blip, well, I know you’ll show as much patience as you’ve done in the past when we did strange geeky things with the site.

This is just to let you know that the appearance of the site is going to change fairly radically. Please do not adjust your set.

  1. We only hope that the rants from the darkness that is the mind of Bock will not end. I would hate to see sponsered by PC World in large flashing lights alongside your beautiful grin on the top banner

  2. That will never happen. If I ever give in to the wishes of advertisers, you can feel free to shoot me.

  3. I don’t know, Bock. Change for change sake is always a worry.
It’s a bit like, you know, changing your underpants even though they feel just right after a month or two. Comfortable, a good fit, even a talking point among friends…
It’s always fraught with danger. Will the new site be O.K.? Too tight? Cold?
    I’ll wait and see…

    Live long and ….

  4. i’m with you fellas!

just keep writing, sugar, i’ll keep reading! xoxox

  5. I think it’s great as it is, clever, thought provoking, artistic, and unique in the world, but it’s your gig. We’ll just have to trust you.

  6. Good stuff BOCK. Have a peek at these sites;

This one is a link to software which will keep your blog on top in google etc
    http://diythemes.com/

This one’s worth checking out. Lots of information on the subject. Read the right hand side column which is populated with links to solid information, especially concerning ads on blog pages.
    http://www.copyblogger.com/

    For instance, this link from the above site is all good advice;
    http://www.copyblogger.com/no-money-blogging/

And after you’ve done that, sell the T-Shirts etc!

  7. do we get money for going to your new site??? if not you can fuck off mate

  8. It’s not a new site and I don’t mind if you fuck off.

    Mate.

  9. Ah well, as long as it’s just a bit of fake tan and teeth whitening, there’s nothing to worry about.

  10. Begorrah! That’s some expert Scottish accent you’ve perfected there, almost had me thinking James Doohan was back from having his arse fried in space.

  11. sellout.

doh, not easy typ with axe in your forehead, just have to put neck back so axe handle doesn’t hit keys.

was thinking of some suitable sponsors that you might approach:

    1. the vatican
    2. mccarthy dumdums,
    3. fuckwits r us (they must exist as an actual group, cause god knows there are enough in this country to band together and move in fuckwitted solidarity)

  12. Congratulations Bock, all is flux, nothing stays the same.

    Three words, Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress.

    Cheers

  13. Hey Bock, you are at the helm of this ship. You do what you need to, to keep her afloat, true and steady. You are the Captain, there shall be no mutiny. As some of us are your true crew, one or two are navigators, and there are a few pirates out there. Do watch out for them. So Rock the Boat, Captain.

  14. “Please do not adjust your set.”

I’m throwing you out of my Favorites. The only reason I come here is for the layout.

  15. All the best for the new look.
Love the new picture, although, it’s more Gok than Bock. Then again, you ARE having a makeover.

  16. What new picture?

    “20% more offensive”???

That’s me gone then. It’ll be intolerable here for Dubliners.

  17. Kinda agree with james in one sense, you are great to critiicise folk but you cannot take it your self, good riddance to a load of crap

  18. I ll sponsor your blog.. and you can have all the handbags you want and you can distribute them to some of yer commentors…..
    OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!

  19. Learn to read, Tommy. Nobody said I was going away.

But then, you never were the brightest, were you?

  20. I too an willing to make an offer of sponsorship of 2 million dollars (Zimbabwean) in exchange for product placement. Simply slip on a pair of La Craic Sportif ready ripped, plaster and paint stained Lo-Riders™ when you post and periodicly mention that no matter what you do you just can’t stop your arse from hanging out.

  21. Bock in these times we must all look to ourselves. Our household economy, our National economy and the Global economy. Well done on the adds. Idea. Please be careful about which ones.

  22. I sometimes wonder whether folks like ‘tommyalltalk’ have blogs, and if so, what do they write …

Gary, which ads in particular are you worried about?

  23. Nora ,perhaps familiar with RealPlayer? There are two banner adds. For “Libertas” on the opening page! Not to suggest that Bock would lower himself to this.

  24. I doubt if Tommy has a blog. In fact, I’d be surprised if Tommy can read and write without the help of a teenager.

  25. Gary, not on my Realplayer. But I saw a flashing day-glo thing for Libertas on a Wiki page this morning and I was amazed!

  26. You’ll see no ads for Libertas here.

  27. i reckon the limerick enteprise network should sponsor your site, and excuse the enteprise pun,you always project limerick in a positive light through posts and pictures,i think they only give grants though to manufacturing??least city council could do is throw you hosting fees for the year bock!!its a pity one foot in the grave is no longer on tv,just think of the irony…bock sponsored by victor mldrew (“,)

  28. Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good. Luckily this is not difficult.
