Pat Robertson on Haiti Earthquake Pact With Devil:

Christian evangelist blames Haitians for earthquake

What kind of idiot is Pat Robertson?

Listen to him here, blaming Haiti’s catastrophic earthquake on a pact with Satan.

A spokesman for the White House said It never ceases to amaze, that in times of amazing human suffering, somebody says something that could be so utterly stupid.

Haiti Appeal

But do you know what’s worse?  Thousands – even millions – of dimwits will listen to this perverted old man and agree with every word he says, because Robertson speaks for the unthinking underbelly of American society.

The sub-prime people.

Robertson speaks for those who stand out in fields pointing at aeroplanes and holding all-night vigils before a prison execution with placards that say Burn in Heel.  Robertson speaks for people who have the same first name as their brother.  Robertson speaks for people who have more wheels on their home than on their car.  At least 30% of Robertson’s followers know someone who has been abducted by aliens.

Pat Robertson speaks for the gun-rack people.  The Eye-rack people.  The Eye-ran people.  The Lynndie England international armed know-nothings.

Robertson speaks to those who believe world peace can be achieved through ballistics, and what’s more, they believe him.

But do you know what’s worst of all?

These people have the vote.    If you think they don’t matter, I have two words for you:  Sarah Palin.

  1. He’s clearly nuts. I guess he plays into peoples’ insecurites about going to hell or something, either way the worms won’t care.

  2. “What kind of idiot?’ you ask. A very wealthy idiot, thanks to the toothless denizens of the shallow end of the gene pool who make up his faithful constituency. Robertson is a suppurating boil on the arse of humanity.

  3. read this. robertson isn’t alone in his idiocy. i can only hope that real americans will speak up against these morons and realize how close we are to having them in charge! xoxoxo (this stuff just keeps getting crazier and crazier everywhere!)

  4. …to listen to Palin on FOX talk about her relationship with god is to chill the very marrow of your being.

She is one scary lady, whether she believes her bullshit or not.

  5. Once again, my hat is off to you Bock, for nailing the essense of religious hypocrisy & media idiocy without tarring all of the US with the same brush.
    Thank you for that.
The crisis in Haiti is no different from Katrina.
These people were ignored and forgotten until the shit hit the fan in a big way and now, for the short term, the media blitz is on. It should have been on years ago.

  6. spot on bock~ once again your mighty pen strikes the target, exposing pure evil.

for years i’ve been mumbling this prayer (alone) a bit of help from my friends wouldn’t hurt…

please dear lord~ if this christian specimen of the devil incarnate from the u.s., named pat robertson,
is going to be on this earth any longer, could you PLEASE disolve his vocal chords??? thankyoudearlordamen.

  7. These nutters are here too…not just the US…remember during the foot and mouth crises some years ago Rev. David McIlveen, FreeP minister, member of Paisley’s inner circle, stated on tv that F+M was ‘God’s vengeance on us sinners’

  8. The slagging off of these people only gains them more support. Palin, a very astute politician, is a classic example. She revels in the criticism she receives in the liberal press and actually attracts support because this is why right wing bible thumping Americans hate liberals in the first place. The only way to attack Palin and her ilk (elk) is to nail them on the economy. Attacking them on their lack of liberal values only plays into their hands as they define themselves by being anti liberal in the first place. It’s the economy stupid as Brother Bill uses say. The Americans are fond of their bible – but their more fond of the dollars in their pockets. The above (Robertson) is a sick and evil man.

  9. The man is certifiable, but you’re right about the sub-prime voters. They are everywhere, and we have our own.

On a related matter, it’s worth going to http://www.flickr.com and searching for ‘ Haiti earthquake’ just to see the images people on the spot have uploaded.

    Nuts

  10. Have decided to be devoted to my CQ ( contentment quota ) for 2010, That man has seriously disturbed it.

Creepy bastards like him crawl out of the woodwork at every disaster, My only consolation is not living in his head.

  11. Perhaps the man could be right. Remember in Matthew Ch. 4 v.8 when Satan tempted Jesus by offering him
the whole world, surely the Son of God would have known it wasn’t his to offer, but all he said was “Go away”
So the world belongs to Satan anyway.

  12. Who was the man on the spot that got the exclusive? Did he get an interview with the Devil while he was there? Who did he sell the story to? Was it syndicated? Did he keep anything back for himself?

  13. Norma-Thanks for the link.Incredible hard hitting photos. We think we have haqve problems with an inch or two of snow.Robertson is a fucking disgrace.

  14. Pat Robertson is sad, part of a dying generation of God-fearing World War 2 folks who never got over the changes of the 1960s.

Sarah Palin is dangerous (but let’s face it, has a nice pair of legs) in that her “fans” are unquestioning.

However, Conservative columnist David Brooks speaks much sense:
    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/15/opinion/15brooks.html?scp=1&sq=brooks%20tragedy&st=cse
…as do many who oppose his point of view (in the comments).

  15. I have a nice pair of legs myself. The link you quote is one of the most condescending, paternalistic, simplistic things I’ve seen in a while. Thanks.

  16. Spot on, Bock. What can I say? These are the people that reared me, if that explains anything. It took a good while to get out of the “clutches” so to speak. The view looking back is none too pretty.

  17. Crap. I forgot to throw buckets of blame on the Catholic Church, highly instrumental in keeping Haitians poorly educated, poor period, barefoot, and most of all, pregnant. Pregnant is their favorite. It swells the population of poor and illiterate. And with oodles of poor and illiterate, the Catholic Church can keep holding the alms basket out, even though the alms never seem to reach anyone but the clergy. Sound familiar?
This seems to be my year to find nothing acceptable about the Catholic Church. Closing schools right and left to cover the lawsuit losses.
Getting out of the business of educating children in mid-stream? Disruptive, but certainly a good idea in the long run.

  18. Most Haitians are RC. Voodoo, deriving from ancestral African religions, is practised in parallel. It seems like a fairly harmless religion.

  19. READ THE BIBLE………ROBERTSON KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT…….THE DEVIL REWARDS HIS OWN..

  20. Thanks Iyverne, for proving what we always suspected about bible abusers like yourself. Rational thought versus dogmatic religion anyone?

  21. There is no mention of rational thought, logic or for that matter any form of thought in the Bible. Therefore these notions must be the work of Satan. Very simple “if it ain’t in the Bible it is the work of Satan”. praise the Lord brothers and sisters. I wonder if I could make a few million out of this?

  22. What Gary doesn’t understand is the insecure read all sorts of insults into humour, as you threatened their very existence with previous disagreement of an opinion. (i.e. I am my opinions and if you don’t enforce them, you are a threat)
“Complaining as well as fault finding and reactivity strengthen the ego’s sense of boundary and separateness on which its survival depends. But they also strengthen the ego in another way by giving it a feeling of superiority on which it thrives. It may not be immediately apparent how complaining, say about a traffic jam, about politicians, about the ‘greeedy wealthy’ or the ‘lazy unemployed’ or your colleagues or ex-spouse, men or women, can give you a sense of superiority. Here is why. When you complain, by implication you are right and the person or situation you complain about or react against is wrong. There is nothing that strengthens the ego more than being right. Being right is identification with a mental position- a perspective, an opinion, a judgement, a story. For you to be right of course you need someone else to be wrong and so the ego loves to make wrong in order to be right. In other words: You need to make others wrong in order to get a stronger sense of who you are. Not only a person, but also a situation can be made wrong through complaining and reactivity, which always implies that ‘ this should not be happening’. Being right places you in a position of imagined moral superiority in relation to the person or situation. It is that sense of superiority the ego craves and through its separateness of enemy making strengthens itself. Facts undoubtedly exist. If you say light travels faster than sound and someone else says the opposite you are obviously right and they are wrong. So not only are you right, you know you are right. Is there any ego involved in this. Possibly, not neccessarily. If you find yourself saying believe me I know, then the ego has crept in, why because there is identification with mind and mental position. It has become contaminated with a false sense of ‘I’..Ego takes everything personally. Emotion arises, defensivenes perhaps even aggression. The ‘I’ feels diminished or offended because somebody doesn’t believe or agree with what ‘I’ said. If even the simple and straightforward realm of facts can lend itself to egoic distortion and illusion, how much more so the less tangible realm of opinions, viewpoints all of them thought forms that can easily
become infused with a sense of ‘I’. Greed, selfishness, exploitation, cruelty and violence are still all pervasive on this planet. When you don’t recognize them as individual and collective manifestations of and underlying dysfunction of human ego you fall into the error of personalizing them. You contruct a conceptual identity for an individual or group and you say, this is who he is, this is who they are. When you confuse the ego that you see in others with their identity, it is the work of your own ego that uses this misinterpretation to strengthen iself through being right and therefore superior. It strengthens the sense of separation between yourself and the ‘other’, whose ‘otherness’ has become magnified to such an extent that you no longer feel your common humanity. The particular egoic patterns that you react to most strongly in others and misperceive as their identity tend to be the same patterns that are also in you, but you are unable and unwilling to detect within yourself. In that sense you have much to learn from your enemies. What is it in them you find most upsetting, most disturbing? Their selfishness, their greed, their need for power and control, their insincerity, dishonesty, propensity to violence, or whatever it may be? Anything that you resent and strongly react to in another is also in you. But it is no more than a form of ego, and as such, it is completely impersonal. It has nothing to do with who that person is, nor has it anything to do with who you are. Only if you mistake it for who you are can observing it within you be threatening to your sense of self..

That’s for the classy compliment Bock, misread it.. which I never was to begin with. Late xmas present for you there.

  23. Audrey — You copied and pasted that from someplace else. Are you trying to force me to block your comments?

    Just say yes or no.

The way I see it now, you are not behaving in a rational way, and I think it’s time you took a holiday from commenting until you settle down.

  24. Bock, obviously you don’t publish anything you don’t want to. Actually I typed it from a book, thats why I used the quote marks. What do you find irrational about what I typed exactly? What are you offended about?
This part maybe, “Only if you mistake it for who you are can observing it within you be threatening to your sense of self”. Have a read of it again and if it bothers you ask yourself why.
I couldn’t really care if I took a permanent holiday from Bock the robber and the minions.. whatever you decide is fine with me Bock.. I think what I typed took time and effort and if you can’t see any good in it, then I don’t know what to say.. you decide, you the man.
Say yes or no.. “Yes or no”.. Eeny Meeny Miny Moe…

  25. Audrey, this post was about Pat Robertson blaming the Haitians for their own misfortune.

Not one word of your last two comments related to that issue.

Now, if you want to kick the furniture around, that’s your business, but I think I’ve been exceptionally patient with your behaviour. Please show respect, or else take a break. It’s your choice.

  26. Actually Bock with all due respect the post was about you taking offense to Pat Robertson. We all know he’s a lunatic.. read what I wrote and you might understand what we all have in common with the Pat Robertsons of the world. How you can understand the lunacy better in the likes of him and ourselves.. What I wrote could actually be taken as relevant to most posts..

thanking you kindly for your patience.. No more furniture here to kick..

  27. Audrey — The post is not about me. It’s about Pat Robertson blaming the Haitians. I’m truly getting tired of this nonsense.

  28. Audrey perhaps you would care to accompany me to the deepest pit of Hell? As for Bock live long and good luck may you and your friends from the local pubs live long and prosper.
    I to tire of this.

  29. An Iranian cleric has said ‘women who do not dress modestly lead young men astray and spread adultery in society, which increases earthquakes’. I’m so glad he’s cleared that one up for me, but I’m still confused on what causes volcanoes. Islam is a bit quiet on that one so far, so I’m going for immorally supporting Spurs. Or owning any Alanis Morissette albums.

  30. NOW HOLD ON THERE… the next thing you’ll all be saying is that aids was a natural disaster and blaming chimpanzee burgers… go ‘way outa dat !
