It’s been a busy week, and so, to relax, I took it into my head to cook a bit of grub for assorted freeloaders, chancers and ne’er-do-wells. Oriental food seemed appropriate, for no reason other than the fact that I like it and that I had the ingredients handy without too much pissing around, so I settled on a selection of dishes broadly related to things I wrote about here before.
I thought a strong, dark beef curry might well complement a light, coconut-flavoured chicken dish. For those who don’t eat meat, I thought perhaps a vegetable curry might go down well, and maybe an assortment of stuffed parathas to round it all off.
I’m still not sure if I’ll make any bajhis. They can be a pain in the arse. I have the gram flour, but I often find that they’re either soggy in the middle or too burnt on the outside, or both. Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’m not destined to make decent bajhis.
Never mind. The main thing is that we have beer and we have coal. I’ll light braziers in the garden and set up speakers. We can sit out in the rain, if rain decides to come, and we can enjoy the delights of our country regardless, full of oriental grub and increasingly sozzled on Indian beer as the night increases.
