Fundraising Table Quiz

Just in:
SERVE is a charity that works in squatter camps close to Rustenburg city in South Africa’s North West Province.   Next week a table quiz will be held in the Pery Hotel, Glentworth Street, Limerick to raise funds for Irish volunteers working with SERVE.
The volunteers will work on construction and renovation projects on the Tapologo campus and in the numerous squatter camps around Rustenburg.  They have also facilitated creche programmes for the young children attending the creches in the squatter camps, preparing classes, teaching the kids and preparing for a final presentation of the kids’ work

The money raised will go towards

-Building work and upkeep on the Tapologo Centre (a hospice for people with HIV/AIDS), The hospice aim to be as self sufficient as possible and have its own organic vegetable garden producing healthy foods for the patients who are seriously ill and go to live their last days in dignity.

-Constructing and setting up creches in the squatter camps. These creches are vital to get children (many of whom are orphaned by AIDS) into a safe environment and to assist with educating them about HIV/AIDS and tryto  break the cycle of passing this disease from generation to generation..

– Scrubbing down and painting large containers to be used as adult education facilities or as HIV clinics. Containers caare used because in the squatter camps it’s not possible to build permanent structures, and it’s important to make them comfortable, clean and for patients.
