What’s going on here?  I clicked on the link, to discover that Ali has a factory in Pakistan, where people are making, of all things, sliotars.  The mystery is why Ali thinks I’d want to buy them.  Here’s a picture of his factory.  Impressive?  You better believe it.

And here are some of the workers making the hurling balls.

Naturally, I had to write back.

Dear Ali

Thank you for your email offering hurling balls and hurling sticks. We would be very interested to see further information on your factory and also some photos of your balls.

We would also be interested to know what timber is used in the manufacture of your hurling sticks.  Please provide photos of the manufacturing process and the finished product.  What size bos do you use for the goalkeepers’ hurleys?

We are always looking for new suppliers as there is a huge demand for such products.  If the information you provide is satisfactory, we could certainly handle your balls and also your sticks.  Provided your products meet our standards, our organisation would possibly be prepared to place an initial trial order for 5,000 balls and 2,000 sticks.  After evaluation, we may be in a position to place an order for a significant number of balls and perhaps sticks too, for sale into the North American market.

Demand for hurling balls in Germany currently outstrips supply and we may ask you to produce a custom-designed Central European version as a premium product for use in the Bundesiománaiocht League.

This could be the start of a major east-west alliance between the mighty Bock empire and the Noor Sliotar Factory of Pakistan.

What do you reckon?

Are you able to print suitable pictures on your balls?

Their Market & Sports Research Dept have figured it’ll be a good summer for Limerick GAA and see you as the man to help them bring Noor Sliotar to the clubs.

Sliotars with pictures of cannabis would allow journalists to write about the Clash of the Hash.

Would you mind asking Ali if he could substitute some good quailty Packi-Black instead oF the Rexion –15 core in the training balls, so we can achieve that Clash of the Hash?

Sure you can. Last I heard he was teaching in the Crescent Comp. There are tales of him reliving his glory days chopping the heads off daisies with a hurley down the L.P.Y.M.A.

Given that the untrained eye struggles to tell the difference between your average County hurling final and the way the more motivated followers of Mo are carrying on in the Islamic State terror strongholds of the Levant, Qatar and Dooradoyle, the headline kinda catches the eye.

“Is this legal, mate?” asked an English pal of mine at a recent stick fighting decider, after which, in fairness, the fans of the losing team didn’t lock the ref in the boot of his car.

Going forward.
